We all know how tedious it can be to go through multiple steps just to finalize and save our drawings. The good news is that you can simplify this process by creating custom keyboard shortcuts.
Recently, I found myself in a situation where I had to constantly switch to paper space, extend the drawing, and then close it—a sequence that required too many steps. To streamline this, I customized a new keyboard shortcut using AutoCAD’s Customize User Interface (CUI). This shortcut allows me to switch to paper space, zoom extend, and close the drawing with a single key combination.
By accessing the CUI, I created a new command and assigned it a macro that performs all these actions in sequence. I then assigned this command to a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + Shift + Q). Now, just like how Ctrl + S saves your drawing, Ctrl + Shift + Q completes all these steps in one go. This small adjustment has saved me a lot of time and has made my workflow much smoother.
If you’re interested in making your AutoCAD experience more efficient, consider setting up custom shortcuts like this one. It’s a simple change that can have a big impact on your productivity. Tutorial for full instructions:
